Paradigm Shift > Tiny Habits
Quite hacking at the leaves and get to the root to end self sabotage
It’s that time of year again-everyone is eager with resolutions and tiny habits.
We’re ALL hitting the gym, cutting out refined sugar, drinking less alcohol, and dammit we're running that half marathon this year!
I love this quote by Thoreau and Steven Covey "For every thousand hacking at the leaves of evil, there is one striking at the root"-Thoreau. "We can only achieve quantum improvements in our lives as we quit hacking at the leaves of attitude and behavior and get to work on the root, the paradigms from which our attitudes and behaviors flow."-Covey
We’re obsessed with atomic habits, endlessly hacking at the leaves while the root stays firmly planted in the ground.
So, how do we strike at the root? How do we change the paradigm—the lens through which we see the world?
Maybe you feel unworthy, unlovable, or like an imposter. Maybe the very thing you’re trying to give up has become a distraction you can’t escape. Willpower alone isn’t working.
Here’s where to start:
Step 1: Know you’ve already been forgiven. God’s grace has always been there.
Step 2: Forgive yourself. Judging yourself or your situation keeps you stuck in a cycle of shame and fear.
Step 3: Let God’s grace flow through you like a river flowing to the ocean. Just as water naturally finds its way to the sea, let God’s universal Truth flow through you. When we live by this grace and Truth the lens we see the world transforms. We show up worthy, authentic, and brimming full of potential to show up fully for our family, friends, and community.
This year, don’t just hack at the leaves of tiny habits, hack at the root, and let the good river flow.
